Miwako is a bubbly, deeply sensitive, creative and stylish young woman. She’s a senior high school student at Yazawa School of the Arts in Tokyo, where she studies fashion design. Though her older sister, whom she admires more than anyone in the world, is a bold and successful fashion designer who’s been a standout visionary all her life, Miwako is far more passive and feels she lacks the originality to start her own clothing brand like her sister did. She instead eagerly sews clothes designed by her friend and classmate George, who is a natural genius like Miwako’s sister. Together with George’s ladylike pattern-maker best friend Isabella, Miwako’s punk long-time boyfriend Arashi, and their passionate aspiring model Yukari Caroline, Miwako works hard to bring George’s elegant visions to life to create their own fledgling brand, Paradise Kiss.

In Avalon, her own dreams are coming true slowly but surely, given a pedestal and window of opportunity she was never able to reach for at home. Without Mikako's designs as a mirror on the market beside hers, Miwako's designs can shine on their own. Her problem is not that she's bad at designing; it's that her designs look like copycats of her sister's style by unconscious nature, which would shoot Miwako in the foot as a designer competing with her idol. Here? There is no Happy Berry to compete with. Mikako's designs are good and Happy Berry is a success back home. If Miwako's designs are natural mirrors to Mikako's... then here, she can succeed, living outside her sister's shadow for the first time in her life. She can be her own person, make her own art, and start her own brand — and will never hear the name "Kouda Mikako" brought up unless she brings it up herself. Which she will — often, and enthusiastically — but with a new brand of vigor. Happy Berry is no longer a dream to admire, but an example to follow.

[ Miwako's off exactly when promised, and dressed rather casual today in a pale pink cutsew with pink fluff and black pompoms over a long-sleeve black pullover with white pinstripes, quirky girliness a bit offset by black combat boots and fishnets. She has messy twin buns, very little jewelry beyond her usual smattering of studs in her ears, and rather soft, natural makeup today, fresh-faced — energetic, not too tired, but maybe a little lazy. She carries her Happy Berry-shaped backpack over one shoulder as she steps out of the shop and scans the scene for him right away. ]

[Gokudera had showed up earlier than he'd meant, and is enjoying a cigarette outside well past the time she gets off. He obviously won't smoke indoors, but this nicotine is to help him get the courage to explain to Miwako where he's been, to make his apology a strong one.

When he sees her, it all sort of starts to crumble. He feels awful for not reaching out to her about any of it, and he's changed. Where he once was timid, now he looks guilty.

At least her hair is pink. He lifts a hand in greeting to her.]

[Gokudera puts his cigarette out against the side of a building and pockets what remains so as to not litter.]

[ She may have been looking for him, and yet somehow still he startles her, and she jumps a little when they spot each other. Miwako takes note that he's a smoker. She thought she'd smelled a hint of cigarettes the first time she did his makeup, but having confirmation is important knowledge. She makes a mental note to buy him a lip scrub. But she's far more observant than that, and she wears an unabashed look of confusion and admiration both. ]

Heeeh— Bingo-kun, you look different! Cool! What'd you do? It's not your hair, is it...? No, no...

[ She can't put her finger on it, but something's changed in him. ]

[Gokudera thinks little of what smoking may do to his appearance. YOLO... kind of? He blinks at her remarks and has to think of a good answer. Honest but not too telling. He can't just say 'oh time travel, I died, found love, lost it, and now I'm back' Instead he just answers with a bow and an apology.]

I'm sorry for not telling you sooner, but I was gone for a while. I fell asleep, and when I woke up, I was older, and a lot has changed for me. I uh... I hoped you hadn't noticed, but it's not been as long here as it was for me in a few of the other places I went.

[He straightens up, the chain about his collar making a soft chiming noise as his boss's ring sways and clicks the metal D rings. There's obvious damage to the skin beneath the leather collar, about the same size as the collar, in fact, which would suggest it's been on too tight for far too long.]

[ Miwako's face has surely never looked so serious around Gokudera before. She'd expected... well, she didn't know what she expected, now that she hears it, but certainly not that answer. She notices the collar right away, at first just thinking it at cool accessory; but when it jingles and draws her eye to it more directly, and she notices the hint of tender skin beneath it, something... doesn't feel right. She furrows her brow so slightly, smileless, staring at him a long moment silently before returning a little bow to be polite. But her face stays frozen in this uncharacteristic discerning look. ]

..."A few of the other places?" Eh? Did you— ...leave?

Yes... and no. Uh. I stayed here physically? But it was like my spirit was in other worlds, and when I woke up, it was like I had been gone for years when I'd only been asleep for weeks...

[He sounds hesitant, because he knows it sounds crazy. It makes no sense, and yet, he can't think of any other way to explain what's happened to him. He left and came back, but never really left.

Miwako has never worn that expression around him before, or at least not for so long. It makes him feel even more guilty, and he wants to make it right, whatever problems he caused her by not being present.]

I'm sorry! I know it doesn't sound real!

[ It takes her pause, before letting out a soft breath as a mysterious, wispy smile comes to her face suddenly. It's not quite melancholy; indeed, another strange expression, though, an odd airiness to her tone. ]

...Nee, c'mon— let's go get tea. There's a café nearby. This isn't a conversation to have standing in the street.

[ She steps to his side and links her arm in his without asking, ready to lead him to a café just down the way, even within eyesight. No concern for if he wants to be touched or not. That's just how this is happening now, apparently. ]

R-Right!

[In all of his worrying, Gokudera completely forgot about tea. He flushes in embarrassment and allows her to link their arms, even straightens up a little to act as a better escort to her. This is actually a pretty normal way he would walk arm-in-arm with his roommate back on Amoi. He wonders how well Miwako and Linneus might get along... remembers just how stunning Linneus can appear.

He feels safe with Miwako, though still concerned about what he had no control over did. When they approach the cafe, he opens the door for her, knowing how to be a gentleman thanks to having it nearly beaten into him.]

[ She grins as the door is held open for her, bowing her head to him politely and going on ahead. The hostess at the counter smiles as they enter, and Miwako asks to sit on the patio seating. Because she noticed Gokudera smokes; she doesn't want to enable him, but doesn't want to deny him the option either, seeing as this all sounds... rather stressful, even to her so far. She takes her seat outside, not bothering to pick up the menu sitting on the table. She must come here a lot, being so close to her work. ]

Get what you want, my treat~ They have bubble tea here! And good crepes if you're hungry~ Though, now come to think of it— ...Miwako might just get a cappuccino, hmm. A lil pep...

[ She's covering the gravity of this up a bit and it's clear, but in a way that's meant to defuse, rather than distract. She's not used to crazy other worldly things even being in a crazy other world for so many months. It's a lot to wrap her head around. She wants her full attention available to him. ]

[Gokudera takes his seat after her and is quiet, staring in surprise at her offer to cover him. He isn't very hungry and casts his gaze down. Some milk tea seems like it will warm him up, though, and he's not as interested in the caffeine as he would normally be. The more sleep he can get later, the better.

So he orders his tea and starts to fidget with the rings on his left hand, avoiding his engagement one in an attempt to not draw attention to it. Miwako seems to be taking this in a good stride and not riling him up with any exclamation, which he appreciates. Gokudera appears to be unable to make eye contact, evasive about this now that the basic summary of what he wanted to say has been laid out.]

[ The waitress takes their orders and is off soon enough. Miwako orders herself a cappuccino and a strawberry-rose pearl milk tea to come out later... Already thinking ahead. Surely not a short conversation. She doesn't know Gokudera all too well, but she can tell nervous fidgeting from a mile away; she's an expert, herself. So she smiles warmly, leaning forward to place her elbows on the table and her chin in her laced hands. ]

...So~ I'm talking to Future Bingo-kun now, nee? How old are you, then? Did you grow, too?

[ She doesn't mean to be teasing exactly, but... to lighten the mood a little. She knows she's a reactive person and trust, it will come, but if she can at least start off with some composure, that's probably better. ]

[Gokudera just keeps rolling the rings on his fingers, still not looking up at her and he's not sure why he's so ashamed of himself. If it's just because of his absence and his lack of communication, or what he did while he was gone, or how he's been such a coward since he's returned to Avalon.]

Yeah. It's been two... maybe three years. I'd be around 18. If I haven't grown physically [Which he has, but not too much vertically, unfortunately] it's all mental.

My body has definitely changed. I've lost weight... though that could be from the sleep or my lifestyle while I was away...

Ahhh! So we're the same age! Cool!

[ She gives him the once-over, from what she can see sitting at the table, when he mentions he may have lost weight. Duly noted. ]

Three years, though... So much changes in that time! Are you, um— okay? I mean, obviously not, but obviously you are, too, I guess I mean—

[ She pauses, shooting him an uncertain look as she decides on her meaning. ]

...Are you happy?

[He looks up at her with a doubtful gaze. Is it cool that he's older, even if it's all mental? Just because he's been spirited around worlds for such a long time, has he actually aged at all? Is he just too old for his body? It's so banged up. He goes back to looking at his hands, and at her question, he stops and considers his ring.

He has friends, family on this world with him, but it's not enough, and for that thought, he feels ungrateful an more guilty than ever. But... he has to be honest, right? He's working on it.]

[Worried he's hiding, worried about opening up, worried that his boss can tell he knows his boss is worried about him, and he's trying to hide and knows he shouldn't. He should move out, but he can't because he has to be around to protect his boss. What if he wakes up one of these days and he's gone and Gokudera never gets to tell his boss the truth, or even tell him goodbye?!

His jaw clenches, his entire body tightens and he thinks about his death on Anchor and watching Takeshi's heartbreak. And the stupid baseball idiot is all alone on a dying planet without him.]

[ Somehow... she also wasn't expecting that answer, either. For all its simplicity, one word speaks volumes, and her face is suddenly awash with empathy. ]

Oh... ...I'm sorry. I— [ She stammers, not at all sure the right thing to say in this instance. ]

This must be really hard for you, isn't it? That's not fair — being spirited away once is hard enough... Let alone many times and back again, huh. That's so scary.

[ She says what she thinks must be the truth. Sometimes... validating is the best route, right? Trying to make something like this out to be better than it seems, seems like the wrong approach, even if optimism is the one she'd usually reach for. Not with this. No, no. She doesn't even know the half of it and just seeing his body language tells her this is not the moment to search for the silver lining. ]

Miwako... I don't care about me. I'm not scared. I'm the worst... I left someone I love very much alone on a radiated planet.

[So he's just been beating himself up, waking up every day and trying to avoid Yamamoto because that is not his Takeshi. He wants his fiancé back, wants to make this right, and he's happy he's with his boss and his family, but he hates that he has to pretend every day that he's happy!]

So. I'm not okay, but... I'm doing what I can. [Avoiding the issue head on day by day~!]

Eh?! But you didn't choose to leave, did you? Were you just taken again and brought back here? Or— you escaped?! Radiation fugitive?!

[ What the hell is a radiation fugitive?! Okay, so her neutral reactivity idea was short-lived, huh. Her imagination is getting away with her. ]

[He knows it's unreasonable to feel so guilty, but he can't help it. He shakes his head.]

[His eyes widen. She's right. But then... if he can't be angry with himself, who is he supposed to be angry with? Avalon? No... it's treating him well so far. Some omnipotent force?! Gokudera puts his elbows on the cafe table, then sets his face in his palm, giving a long, drawn out sigh.]

So it's just a tragic coincidence... Oh, I'm so sorry, that's awful. For you both.

[ She wears a look of genuine empathy. She can tell he wants to blame somebody, but right away to her, it sounds like there's no one at fault but mean old Lady Luck. ]

[He gives a soft sigh, probably his hundredth of the day, then nods at her gently.]

It is, but... I didn't reach out to you today to tell you that so much as apologize for my absence. How has your work been, Miwako?

Ah. I see. ...Nee, you know, it's funny, Miwako was thinking of reaching out to Bingo-kun, too... things have been uneventful, just working and saving money, until yesterday, because as of yesterday—

[ She raps her fingers against the edge of the table like a little drumroll, forcing a little smile to her face to compensate such dark news. ]

Ba-ba-da-daaan! I reached my savings goal for an atelier!

[Gokudera is happy to move off the subject of why he's been gone, or what he's been doing while he's been gone. It's easier to focus on work. He likes work. It's full of things he can accomplish.]

An atelier? [Gokudera's not familiar with the word, actually, and curiously tips his head. He's an idiot sometimes. He knows what a dossier is, and that's not a regularly used word.]

Mm! I found an old dance studio for rent — actually, not far from here... A couple blocks or so. It's a little beat up, I admit, but it's cheap, and I don't need anything super fancy because it'll just be a studio space — not a storefront, since I'm marketing my brand online. So it won't need to be impressive as a boutique, just inspiring as a workspace~ But I want it. If I can get a license for it, the city will help me cover expenses, and I can have a workshop for more elaborate photoshoots, too!

[ She wears a hopeful smile with a light lilt to her voice, tilting her head as she speaks. It's exciting stuff. ]
